  • Held — 18Z, two hours before the US close; nothing scores here. Thursday's base, declared in the 10-09-00 block, stands: the index bars run off Thursday's closes, and the 2Y class base is that block's CMT (4.75). The falsifier run is 1 after Thursday's FIRED + INERT. Friday is the possible leg two, and it scores in the Mon 10-12 00Z edition.

  • ★ Falsifier — no index is near a bar at 18Z; the run stays at 1 until Monday's scoring. The rule is fixed in advance: a Friday fire (a strict >±1.50% max intraday excursion off Thursday's declared close) with an INERT 2Y CMT (|Δ|≤3bp off 4.75) takes the run to 2 and TRIPS the falsifier; RESPONDED (≥4bp) is a RESET; no fire is a LAPSE. So far all three indexes have traded only above Thursday's closes, and the largest excursion is the Dow's +0.84%; the S&P 500's is +0.62% and the Composite's +0.67% (item 1). The live 2Y is about 4.1bp above Thursday's market close, beyond the INERT band, but it is a live tick, not the CMT, and I do not pre-score it. Without a fire, the 2Y class does not enter: Friday would be a LAPSE. Monday's rules are registered: with no Monday CMT, a Monday fire is UNTESTABLE and no fire is a LAPSE.

  • Changed since 12Z — stocks opened higher and held, the front end rose further, crude reversed to small gains, sentiment fell, and Isaias reached 120 mph, a category 3. At 12Z the live 2Y was about +2.5bp; now it is about +4.1bp, with the 5Y moving from about +0.7bp to about +3.5bp and the 10Y from about flat to about +1.7bp (item 1). The University of Michigan's preliminary October sentiment index came in at 46.3, below forecasts, with one-year inflation expectations at 4.7% (item 2). Europe closed about +1.0 to +1.1%. November WTI has gone from about −1.1% to about +0.35% and December Brent from about −1.6% to about +0.3% (item 3). NHC's 18:00Z advisory has Isaias at 120 mph, up from 110 mph at 12Z (item 3).

  • 🔵 US MIDDAY — stocks up 0.6 to 0.8%, every index above Thursday's close all session; the front end up about 4bp; none of it scores. At 14:00 ET the S&P 500 is about +0.6%, the Nasdaq Composite about +0.6% and the Dow about +0.8% against Thursday's closes (CNBC and Yahoo agree). The session lows are all above Thursday's closes, by 0.05% (Dow) to 0.22% (Composite), so the falling side has not been approached. The VIX is about 3.4% lower (CNBC and Yahoo agree). Live yields against Thursday's market close (CNBC): the 2Y about +4.1bp, the 5Y about +3.5bp, the 10Y about +1.7bp and the 30Y about flat. Friday's CMT is published after the close and is the scored figure. Midday movers, per CNBC: Humana up 12% after the 2027 Medicare Star Ratings; Alignment Healthcare down almost 14%; Apple down nearly 2% after the Nikkei Asia report on iPhone 18 Pro order cuts. Those are CNBC's readings. The dollar: the DXY is about +0.1% (CNBC and Yahoo agree), the euro about −0.1% and USD/JPY about +0.25%. Gold is about +1.5% (CNBC and Yahoo agree).

Session max excursion vs Thu close (Yahoo 10-09 high/low, 18:00Z): S&P +0.62 / +0.18%; Composite +0.67 / +0.22%; Dow +0.84 / +0.05% (high / low; all lows above the Thu close). VIX −3.44% (CNBC) / −3.5% vs 10-08 bar (Yahoo). CNBC vs Thu market close (14:00 ET; live, not CMT): US2Y +4.1bp, US5Y +3.5bp, US10Y +1.7bp, US30Y −0.2bp. 12Z: +2.5 / +0.7 / −0.2 / −0.2bp. CNBC blog (17:34Z): midday movers. DXY +0.12% (CNBC) / +0.13% vs Thu bar (Yahoo DX-Y.NYB); EUR= −0.11%; JPY= +0.25%; @GC.1 +1.50% (= Yahoo GC=F vs Thu bar). Falsifier: run 1 (10-09-00); bars and class base in the 10-09-00 block.
    • uncertainty: 🟢 the index, dollar and gold moves are two-sourced; 🟡 the yield moves are live and single-sourced, and the CMT can differ; 🟡 the movers are CNBC's; 🔵 two hours of trading remain, so the excursions are not final, and no driver is established.

  • 🟡 UMICH — preliminary October sentiment 46.3, below forecasts; one-year inflation expectations 4.7%, five-year 3.5%. The University of Michigan's preliminary October index came in at 46.3, from 48.1 in September. The forecasts differ by outlet: CNBC cites a Dow Jones consensus of 47; investingLive has 47.8 expected. Current conditions fell to 44.7 and expectations rose to 47.3. One-year inflation expectations rose to 4.7% from 4.6%, and five-year to 3.5% from 3.4%. CNBC calls the headline the "second lowest on record," after May's reading; investingLive's piece puts May's record low at 44.8. CNBC quotes survey director Joanne Hsu: "Frustration over cost-of-living continues to mount." investingLive's Adam Button calls the report "increasingly unreliable." Those are the outlets' readings; the live 2Y rise in item 1 is not attributed to the release.

    • evidence: CNBC blog (14:27Z): sentiment 46.3, down 3.7% from September; Dow Jones consensus 47; current conditions 44.7 (−12.2%); expectations 47.3 (+2.2%); one-year 4.7%, five-year 3.5%, both highest since May. investingLive (14:00Z): 46.3 vs 47.8 expected; prior 48.1; current conditions 44.7 vs 51.0 expected; expectations 47.3 vs 45.5 expected; one-year 4.7% vs 4.6% prior; five-year 3.5% vs 3.4% prior; May record low 44.8.
    • uncertainty: 🟢 the readings are two-sourced and match; 🟡 the consensus differs by outlet; 🟡 "second lowest on record" is CNBC's, consistent with investingLive's May figure; 🔵 this is a preliminary reading, and no market effect is established.

  • 🟡 EUROPE CLOSES, CRUDE AND THE STORM — Europe up about 1%; oil back to small gains; Isaias a category 3 at 120 mph, landfall expected Friday evening. The Stoxx 600 closed +0.97%, the FTSE 100 +1.06%, the DAX +1.13% and the CAC 40 +0.95% (CNBC and Yahoo agree; stamped after the cash close). November CLX26 is about +0.35% and December Brent about +0.3% against Thursday's settles (CNBC settle fields = Yahoo dated 10-08 bars), a reversal from losses of 1.1 to 1.6% at 12Z. Both are live ticks; none of the outlets I read gives a reason for the turn, and I establish no cause. Crude is a context line, not a falsifier input. The storm: NHC's 18:00Z intermediate advisory 12A has Hurricane Isaias at 120 mph, 959 mb, moving NNE at 16 mph, about 145 miles south of Pensacola. NHC calls it "a category 3 hurricane" and expects it to be "at or near major hurricane strength" at landfall within the warning area Friday evening, with weakening after landfall. Tropical storm conditions are beginning along the northern Gulf Coast. The warnings are unchanged with this advisory.

    • uncertainty: 🟢 the European closes and crude moves are two-sourced; 🟢 the storm status is NHC's own, and 🟡 its strength and timing are forecasts; 🔵 no cause established for crude's turn.
