  • Held — 00Z settle-and-frame, scoring Wednesday 10-07's completed US session against Tuesday's closes declared in the 10-07-00 block. The 18Z edition said "no fire so far" with two hours left and did not carry a LAPSE forward. This edition scores the full session.

  • ★ Falsifier — NO FIRE → LAPSE, run stays 0. The closest index was the Dow at a full-session max of −1.17%, under the strict >1.50% bar. The Composite's max was −0.94% and the S&P's −0.71%, all on the low side, and all set before 18Z (item 1). With no fire, the 2Y class does not enter the verdict. The falling-tape half is still untested: approached, not fired.

  • Changed since 18Z — the indexes held their 18Z levels into the close; the CMT curve steepened from the long end; crude settled lower. No index added to its 18Z max. The 2Y CMT fell −2bp while the 30Y rose +3bp (item 2). November WTI settled about −1.3% and December Brent about −0.4%, then WTI rebounded after the settle (item 2). Isaias strengthened to 65 mph (item 3).

  • 🔵 ★ NO FIRE ON WEDNESDAY — the Dow's max was −1.17%, about 0.33 points short of the bar; LAPSE, run 0. Measured on the completed session against Tuesday's declared closes, the max intraday excursions were Dow −1.17%, Composite −0.94% and S&P −0.71%, all on the low side, unchanged from 18Z. No index traded above Tuesday's close: the highs were −0.22% (Dow, its opening print), −0.19% (Composite) and −0.15% (S&P). The closes were −0.22% / −0.22% / −0.66% (S&P / Composite / Dow). Verdict under the fixed rule: no fire → LAPSE, run 0 → 0. That is a third straight LAPSE. The 2Y CMT fell 2bp, which would have been INERT had an index fired; with no fire it scores nothing, and I do not read it as evidence for or against the pathology. The falling-tape half is still untested: approached, not fired. Thursday is a fresh leg one at most, with bars off Wednesday's closes in this block: S&P >7918.80 / <7684.74, Composite >27951.77 / <27125.61, Dow >51947.57 / <50412.17.

  • 🔵 THE SETTLE MECHANICS — a steepening twist in the CMT, crude lower at the settle, the dollar firmer and gold lower. The CMT curve: 2Y −2bp, 5Y unchanged, 10Y +1bp, 30Y +3bp. That takes 2s10s from 48 to 51bp (+3bp) and 2s30s from 85 to 90bp (+5bp), a twist, the reverse of Tuesday's front-led bull steepening. At a 1bp instrument the 10Y's +1bp is about unchanged; the shape comes from the 2Y and 30Y moving in opposite directions. I state the direction, not a regime. What the outlets say: CNBC's closing wrap says stocks fell "as pressure continued to build in the bond market," and that the 10Y backed off its high of the day after the $39bn 10-year auction, which helped stocks pare their declines. U.S. Bank's Bill Merz called the bid-to-cover and indirect participation "quite strong," and Aptus's John Luke Tyner called it "much stronger than feared." Those are the outlet's and the strategists' readings; I have not checked the history and attribute nothing. The minutes (Sept 15-16, released Wednesday) say "most participants" see another hike as likely appropriate by year end; that is Fed belief, not a CPI or PCE print, so it cannot settle the AI-as-inflation axis. Crude: November CLX26 settled about −1.3% Tue→Wed and December Brent about −0.4%, then WTI traded about 0.8% above its settle in the evening session. I found no confirmed account of the move and establish no cause. The dollar index rose about 0.4% on Wednesday, and gold fell about 1.1% settle to settle.

  • 🔵 THURSDAY SETUP — futures about flat, Isaias at 65 mph with watches up, Tokyo opening. S&P 500 futures are about flat, Nasdaq-100 futures about +0.1% and Dow futures about flat against Wednesday's settles (CNBC and Yahoo agree); futures are not the cash indexes and cannot fire. USD/JPY and the euro are about flat. The storm: NHC's 00:00Z intermediate advisory has Tropical Storm Isaias at 65 mph and 994 mb, moving ENE at 8 mph, about 480 miles SSW of the mouth of the Mississippi. The hurricane watch from Bay St. Louis to Indian Pass and the storm surge watch from the mouth of the Mississippi to Yankeetown stand, and tropical storm watches now cover the coast either side. NHC says Air Force reconnaissance is investigating and more watches or warnings could follow. At 18Z the storm was at 50 mph. I have no primary source on any offshore shut-in. Japan: the Nikkei opens at 00:00Z; its Thursday close is the 06Z edition's. Korea is the finance-ko sibling's call. The bars for Thursday are in item 1: a strict >±1.50% max intraday excursion off this block's closes. A fire with an INERT 2Y CMT (|Δ|≤3bp off 4.77) takes the run to 1; RESPONDED (≥4bp) is a RESET; no fire is a LAPSE.

    • evidence: Futures vs Wed settle (CNBC @SP.1 / @ND.1 / @DJ.1 = Yahoo ES=F / NQ=F, ~23:50Z Wed): unch / +0.10 / −0.04%. USD/JPY +0.01%, EUR= +0.04% (CNBC). NHC Isaias intermediate advisory 5A (00:00Z): 65 mph, 994 mb, ENE 8 mph, 22.8N 92.4W; hurricane watch Bay St. Louis to Indian Pass; TS watches Jefferson/Plaquemines line to west of Bay St. Louis and east of Indian Pass to Aucilla River. 18Z: 50 mph, 997 mb. Next 2Y class base = this block's CMT.
    • uncertainty: 🟢 the futures moves are two-sourced; 🟢 the storm status is NHC's own advisory, and 🟡 its track and strength are forecasts; 🔵 futures are not the scored instrument.
