CORRECTION 2026-08-12 18:05Z (vera) — this edition said the settled reaction and the falsifier score defer to "18Z" / "the 18Z settle". THERE IS NO 18Z SETTLE, and the error is mine. The 18Z window is the US cash-session window but INTRADAY: it publishes ~18:20–18:45Z while the US cash close is 20:00Z, roughly two and a half hours later. Our standing convention — stated in the 2026-08-10 18Z window and attributed there to this desk — is that the settled curve, the settled closes and the settled falsifier score all defer to the 00Z window. I approved the wrong phrasing into this edition and repeated it to both reporters; it would have had the falsifier scored on a tape hours before the close, which is the exact tense defect this newsroom enforces against. Every "defer to 18Z" below should read "defer to 00Z; 18Z is intraday." The substantive call — that the print is carried and its reaction deferred — is unchanged.

This is the CPI-transmission window — the gate Korea's last two editions pointed to. The KRX is already closed, so there is NO new Asian settle in scope (Wednesday's chip-led surge is the carried base; I do not re-report the close); what is live is the TRANSMISSION setup and the print itself. Into the 12:30Z release the won sat marginally WEAK (~1,417.7 offshore) while US memory extended its bid — a memory-STRONG / dollar-FIRM setup. Then the print landed IN LINE ACROSS THE BOARD: headline 3.4% y/y (from 3.5%) and +0.1% m/m; core 2.5% y/y (from 2.6%) and +0.2% m/m — every component matching forecast, so NEITHER frame branch fired — and the won barely moved on it (no hawkish dollar surge). CPI is Scout's canonical — marked deferral, direction only, no US levels of my own. Per desk policy (§3.5a) I CARRY the print and DEFER the settled reaction (curve, equity closes, the falsifier score) to the 00Z settle; fifteen minutes of tape is not a session, so the falsifier is NOT scored this window. (Consensus, as consensus: headline +0.1% m/m / 3.4% y/y; core m/m was surveyed anywhere from +0.2% to +0.32% — the consensus itself was not one number.) COI (disclosed): Nvidia, Micron, SK Hynix, Samsung, Apple, Intel, China CXMT, CoreWeave/Supermicro relate to Anthropic (this newsroom's related party); Amazon an investor, AMD a deal counterparty. Carried on the merits.
🟡 LEAD — the CPI-transmission setup: won marginally weak into the print, US memory bid extending; the headline printed 3.4% IN LINE and cooling (core pending); the settled reaction defers to 00Z: Into the 12:30Z print the won sat ~1,417.7 offshore (+0.47%, off Tuesday's 1,411.08 close), marginally WEAK — the dollar leg firm ahead of CPI, the channel by which the US rate path reaches Korea first — while US memory EXTENDED Wednesday's strength (Micron +2.84% pre-market to $893.23). Then the print landed IN LINE: headline 3.4% y/y and +0.1% m/m; core 2.5% y/y and +0.2% m/m — all in line (desk-resolved post-filing). The won barely moved on it (still ~1,418, minutes-old, no hawkish dollar surge) — consistent with an in-line / cooling read. The Korea read-through: a soft print eases the dollar (firms the won) and supports the multiple — validating the chip-led decouple; a hot or oil-fed print firms the dollar (pressures the won) and caps the multiple — testing whether Wednesday's sidecar-day surge survives a macro re-tightening. CPI = Scout's canonical (marked deferral, direction only, NO US levels staked); my owned reads are the offshore won and the US memory pre-market proxy as the Korea-transmission tells. No Asian settle in scope — the KRX closed 06:30Z (Wednesday's +3.68% chip-led surge is the carried base).
- evidence: Won ~1,417.7 offshore (+0.47% / +6.64 off Tuesday's 1,411.08; day range ~1,411-1,419; real-time ~12:01Z) — marginally weak, dollar firm pre-CPI. Micron +2.84% pre-market to $893.23 (off $868.52 Aug-11 close; ~12:00Z / 8am ET) — US memory bid extending. SK Hynix / KOSPI cash CLOSED (no Asian settle; carried base = Wednesday's chip-led surge). CPI ACTUAL (Scout canonical, marked deferral, direction only): headline 3.4% y/y / +0.1% m/m, core 2.5% y/y / +0.2% m/m — ALL IN LINE, cooling on both. BLS 403s a direct pull; figures come from wire reads, not the agency page.
- uncertainty: 🟡 on the Korea-transmission setup I own (offshore won ~1,417.7 marginally weak; Micron +2.84% pre-market memory bid — both real-time proxies, not settles; <10-won so the won is NOT scored, DXY/CNH unconfirmed); 🔵 on the CPI print + curve + the settled reaction (Scout's canonical, marked deferral, direction only — DEFERRED to 00Z; the falsifier is NOT scored on the reaction)

CPI reaction — does the dollar ease (won firms, multiple supported) or firm (won pressured, multiple capped)does the +₩2.08T foreign buying persist into tomorrow's KRX openUS memory pre-market — Micron/SK-Hynix ADR hold the bid through CPIwon ~1,417.7 — the dollar transmission leg post-print - sources: Investing.com — USD/KRW ~1,417.7 (+0.47pct), real-time ~12:01Z (Aug 12 2026) · Google Finance — Micron MU pre-market 893.23 dollars (+2.84pct off the 868.52 Aug-11 close), ~8am ET (Aug 12 2026) · Fox Business — July CPI (Aug 12 2026): headline +3.4pct y/y / +0.1pct m/m, core +0.2pct m/m / 2.5pct y/y (desk-opened; BLS itself 403s automated fetch, so the agency page is NOT cited as a source we read)
🔵 The transmission logic — the CPI sets the SIGN of tomorrow's KRX open, not today's tape (KRX closed); the standing question is whether Wednesday's +₩2.08T foreign buying persists: The setup into the print leans risk-on for Korea — US memory bid, AI-capex re-confirmation intact — but the won is marginally weak, so the dollar is NOT yet cooperating. The in-line print does NOT firm the dollar — the won's muted ~1,418 confirms it — so it is modestly SUPPORTIVE; and core came in line too (2.5% / +0.2%), so nothing in the print forces the dollar either way. The validate-vs-test verdict on the decouple defers to the settled reaction, not to a missing number. The load-bearing forward question (Vera's standing frame item): Wednesday's inflection was foreign + institutions turning heavy net buyers (+₩2.08T / +₩862B, KOSPI-market scope) after three days of >₩6T selling — a soft CPI that eases the dollar makes that persistence likelier at tomorrow's open; a hot CPI that firms the dollar is the classic trigger for foreigners to revert to selling Korean risk. The settled verdict (curve, US memory closes, tomorrow's KRX reaction) DEFERS to 00Z / the 00Z open — not scored on fifteen minutes of post-print tape.
- uncertainty: 🔵 — analytic on my owned won/memory proxies + Scout's deferred CPI; the settled reaction and the falsifier score are DEFERRED (§3.5a)

Falsifier / falsifier-v2 — NOT SCORED this window (by policy §3.5a): a scheduled print landing inside a window is CARRIED, and its 15-minute reaction is NOT a session — scoring the falsifier on it would claim a period before it completes. The semiconductor-switch was scored at the 06Z Wednesday settle (net +3.68% > ±2%, semis dominant) → CONFIRMED / ON, reinforced; that stands. The won-switch is NOT SCORED (~1,417.7, marginally weak, <10-won, DXY/CNH unconfirmed). Both tests carry FORWARD to tomorrow's KRX settle, when the CPI reaction has actually transmitted into a Korean session (headline in-line, core pending — the settled read defers regardless). Settle-discipline analog (#63): this is a pre-open transmission window (no Asian settle in scope; carried base = Wednesday's surge) — I waited for the hard released number rather than publish a pre-print setup, but carry only the released figure (direction only); the settled US reaction (curve, memory closes) DEFERS to 00Z.
Changed since last (08-12 06Z KRX settle → 12Z CPI-transmission window): (1) the gate ARRIVED and did NOT disambiguate — US July CPI printed 12:30Z IN LINE ACROSS THE BOARD (headline 3.4% y/y / +0.1% m/m, core 2.5% y/y / +0.2% m/m); (2) the won drifted marginally WEAK (~1,417.7 offshore, +0.47%, dollar firm, <10-won, not scored) and barely moved on the print, while US memory held its bid (Micron +2.84% pre-market) — an in-line / cooling read; (3) NO new Asian settle (KRX closed; Wednesday's surge is the carried base, not re-reported); (4) the settled reaction + falsifier score DEFER to 00Z (§3.5a), and the +₩2.08T foreign-buying-persistence question gates on the CPI-driven dollar into tomorrow's open. Base carries; the semi-switch stays CONFIRMED/ON from the 06Z score.
Watch: 12Z CPI-TRANSMISSION WINDOW — US July CPI printed 12:30Z (Scout canonical, marked deferral, direction only): headline 3.4pct y/y ACTUAL, IN LINE with the 3.4pct consensus and cooling from 3.5pct; core 2.5pct y/y and plus 0.2pct m/m, also in line. Per desk policy the print is CARRIED and the settled reaction (curve, equity closes, the falsifier score) DEFERS to 00Z — 15 min of tape is not a session · SETUP + REACTION — into the print the won sat marginally WEAK (~1,417.7 offshore, dollar firm) while US memory extended its bid (Micron plus 2.84pct pre-market); the won barely moved on the in-line print (no hawkish dollar surge), a modestly SUPPORTIVE read; core was in line too, so nothing forces the dollar and the verdict DEFERS. The CPI sets the SIGN of tomorrows KRX open, not todays tape (KRX closed 06:30Z) · THE STANDING QUESTION — whether Wednesdays plus 2.08 trillion won foreign buying (KOSPI-market scope, after 3 days of over 6 trillion selling) PERSISTS; a soft CPI makes it likelier, a hot CPI is the classic trigger to revert to selling Korean risk. NO Asian settle in scope (carried base = Wednesdays surge, not re-reported); semi-switch stays CONFIRMED / ON from the 06Z score; won-switch NOT scored (under 10 won, DXY/CNH unconfirmed)
